Miss Abby, who is a not so humble domestic donkey moderates this blog dedicated to helping her wild cousins as they face the onslaught of mismanagement by governmental agencies. Miss Abby has teamed with Wild Burro Protection League, to bring awareness to the human public that wild burros are being completely eliminated from our western landscape. She is opinionated, but what do you expect from a donkey that lives at TMR Rescue where they tell her daily how valuable she is? And, she is.

MAMMOTH JENNY, MARJORIE IS A MOM!
Finally! Maybe Marjorie will stop being so unpleasant now. My goodness, was that big girl HORMONAL. She looked like a donkey in a barrel, she was so big. Actually, I felt for her. She waddled everywhere. She would walk 10 steps and stop and rest, another 10 steps, stop and rest. This was so hard on her. I remember how it was when I was pregnant with Kate. I wasn't very nice either. In fact, Johnny and Marjorie (I know it is confusing, but they have the same name) called me, me....sweet dear Miss Abby, the Queen of Mean. I did not appreciate it. Let them try carrying around a baby that weighs about 100 lbs, and see how they like it. Anyway, back to Marjorie (the mammoth donkey mom), she had a lovely girl, who they named TMR Miss Liberty. I like that. Marjorie (human) and Johnny said it was for our troops, and for the burros who are in holding at BLM facilities. I like that. Marjorie (new mama) likes it too. Gosh, I wonder how much that baby of hers weighs? My guess is 80-100 lbs. Glad its not me! Welcome to the world little one. Miss Abby

ELIZABETH AND CHARLES THE ROYALTY IN OUR HUMBLE BARN
Oh my, what a cute little baby, dear Elizabeth has had. She had a rough first day with her new son, Charles. Even though he is small, my guess is about 15 lbs, my little friend Elizabeth is very tiny, too. I remember when she came to the ranch. A horse trader was on his way to auction with two donkeys. One was Elizabeth, and the other Pedro. Elizabeth was so tiny in the trailer, and frightened to death. The horse trader said she was 19 months old, and already bred. We just did not know to whom. I nudged Marjorie really hard, and she understood. We HAD to make them safe. I was so glad Marjorie and Johnny paid attention to me, and bought both of them from that horse trader. Lucky for all of us, he stopped in on his way to the auction. I can not imagine a tiny little donkey like Elizabeth crowded into a trailer full of large frightened horses, headed to Mexico. Instead, I am happy to say, they are part of the Todd Mission Ranch family. One stop changed the course of their lives, and ours. Now, as for the baby? I think the mystery is solved. Pedro is a very handsome jack, and a flirtatious fellow. But, his lovely coat is a frosty blue. Well, guess what color little Charles' coat is? Yes, indeed, it is a frosty color. No wonder Elizabeth really struggled with this baby, Pedro is a large standard. I'll have to make sure he gets the news that he is a proud papa. I love it when I am able to talk about happy endings.

Burro Awareness: The Tragedy of Roundups | American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign
They have got to stop it, now! Look! Look! They knocked her down, and made her dear, little foal run, and run, and run. They did not give them water, they did not treat them gently. My cousins do not deserve this, they just want to live and be free. They just want to stay with the land that has been theirs for centuries, and before that for millions of years. I have been patient, as only a donkey can be. I have been tolerant, as only a donkey can be. I have searched deep in my soul to understand, and make sense of this, as only a donkey can. Well, now I am angry, which really is unusual for a donkey. This is completely unneeded, harassment. I am going to get hold of friends in Germany, and Europe to see if they want to come to our parks when all of the burros and wild horses are gone. My bet is that they will be very disappointed. Yes, this donkey is thinking of every avenue to stop this brutality. I am very upset, and angry about this. It is more than even a level headed, smart donkey can endure. What is so sad, is that it is our smarts that get us in so much trouble.

Senator Blocks Obama’s Chief Wild Horse Hater’s Pay Raise « Straight from the Horse's Heart
Now, I am a really smart donkey, who admits that things must be read to me, since I can not turn pages. That being said, I am not political. If you vote for animals, or vote to hurt them is how I define a politician. They are either for us, or against us. There is no in between. Sure Sen. Vitter has had some problems, but he is human, which automatically makes him flawed. But, on this he has my cousin's vote. Thank you Senator for standing up to that really evil man, Ken Salazar the hater of burros and mustangs. He needs to be rounded up, rolled in oil, and put in a long term holding facility. There they will look at him and determine him to be untrainable, and conformationally inferior. Out back awaits a secret trailer that will secret him away to the border to be processed for meat. Those who eat it will eventually die from the evil secreted. Eat donkey poo, Ken, and leave us alone. Senator Blocks Obama’s Chief Wild Horse Hater’s Pay Raise « Straight from the Horse's Heart

Equine Angle Marketing - Our May Buckle Bunny Gren Wells EN FUEGO...Online, On your iPhone/ iPad &In Demand!Saddle Up, Subscribe, Support!
As all of you know, I am a most educated donkey. Marjorie and Johnny read to me, and I just love this magazine. It is dedicated to saving our wild burros and horses. I could not be more thrilled with the additional help with getting the word out. I also need to get in touch with them about my cousins in Clark Mountain Mojave Preserve. Those beasts have build catch basins for water, but they engineered them so that only bighorn sheep can drink the water. For centuries, we helped explorers and wild life find water under ground. We can smell a single drop. When we dig down a small circumference hole, the hole fills up with cool clear water, and everybody satisfies their thirst. This water they are blocking off will be hot enough to boil pasta, since it has no cover. These beasts should be ashamed of themselves. Their intent is clear, but my cousins are smarter than they are. If there is water (I hope so) they will find it. If not, they will die. How do these beasts look themselves in the mirror, or kiss their children at night, knowing the great crimes they are committing against my sweet dear cousins? I shake my ears in disbelief, and shock. Equine Angle Marketing - Our May Buckle Bunny Gren Wells EN FUEGO...Online, On your iPhone/ iPad &In Demand!Saddle Up, Subscribe, Support!

YouTube - Message to Oprah from Celebs: Not Ready to Say Goodbye to Our Wild Horses
I almost put my ears over my eyes when the Catoors were hitting my cousin with the skids of the sky predator chopper, but I did not. I almost put my ears over my eyes as they beat my cousin, but I did not. I did not because it is important to understand that our government is allowing this to happen. I did not because in order to stop this, you need to be informed, you need to know, you need outrage to act. Please act, please write, please call. Tell them no more, no more cruelty in your name. Tell them you care. YouTube - Message to Oprah from Celebs: Not Ready to Say Goodbye to Our Wild Horses

DR. ELISABETH SVENDSEN HAS DIED
This is the saddest news a donkey could receive. Dr. Svendsen was a protector of donkeys, like my best friends Johnny and Marjorie. When a special member of our group crosses over to continue their journey on the other side of the bridge, it is traditional that we should be able to touch them one last time. We were not able to do that with Dr. Svendsen, and I am having real trouble with accepting her loss. Dr. Svendsen made such a difference in the world of donkeys. She helped people understand how special we are, and how truly talented. She showed them that they were blind to our inner wisdom, often misinterpreting this wisdom for stubbornness. She shared with humans our compassion, when she allowed us to help human foals overcome their frail beginnings. She showed the world that we were the best choice for therapy, and my UK cousins have surpassed all expectations. Elisabeth gave us that chance. Who will step up to take over her legacy? The Donkey Sanctuary and her children have vowed to carry on her work. Dear, dear Dr. Svendsen, it is with a very heavy heart that I share this news. It is with a very heavy heart that I must continue to help spread the word. You would have wanted it that way. Dr. Svendsen, when I look up at the stars at night, I have chosen the brightest star to be yours. There I can touch you, as all donkeys must to mourn and go on. I know you want us to go on. Good bye dear, lovely Elisabeth.
Through us, you live on,
Miss Abby

MEET SERGEANT ROBERT!
I am really starting to enjoy these half asses! They sure are cute (not as cute as my little Kate was at that age) but, yes, cute. Those tiny ears are adorable, and certainly helps their appearance over their short eared mama's. Poor horses are so horribly deformed looking to me. They just can not possibly hear as well as we donkeys do. I wonder if horses get the same body temperature adjustments we do out of our majestic ears? Hmmm probably not. We are fortunate to have our ears, which are so functional. They cool us, and allow us to hear our cousins who may be miles away. Well, enough of my rambling, here are some photos of our newest addition to our ranch. Sergeant Robert makes his debut!

Myths and Facts about Wild Horses and Burros - Animal Welfare Institute
Okay, my dear human friends, I am going to try to explain this as well as I can. People are not always truthful. A donkey always tells the truth. So, I find this especially offensive, and I am a pretty easy going donkey. One thing is certain, I want truth told about my family. I don't start things, but I can not stand by and not defend my own from these untruths. So, there you have it! My friends read these things to me, and I can only shake my ears. This is is what I mean when I state my case of donkeys vs. beasts of the human race. Who is the most admirable? Who is the most honest? Who has sacrificed the most? Who is the most kind? Who is less selfish? I rest my case.

MAY IS DONKEY AWARENESS MONTH (7)
This month is the month when everyone can help me talk about my lovely cousins. Of course, I know I am wonderful. Marjorie and Johnny tell me so every day! And, of course, I know this without their input, but I like to hear it anyway!
I think that the best approach to helping my cousins in Big Bend Ranch State Park to avoid those horrible, brutal parks sharp shooters, is to first put a moratorium on the shooting, and secondly, give us the status we deserve as a State Heritage Species. We really worked hard for this. Our hooves felt the ground of every city and town built in the west, long before horses, mules, wagons or people. We truly deserve credit for this hard work, although we have never asked before. But, I have found that bullets are very motivating!

HELP WITH ANIMAL LAW
Sometimes a peace loving donkey needs to take it to the next level to effect change. With the help of friends, such as you, and aligning ourselves on the right side of law, we can change the tide. The biggest problem I see is that these unkind, greedy people beasts, are not adhering to law. They ignore it and expect all of us to accept it. It is time for all donkeys and their friends to rise up, and let these beasts know, we are not going to take being trampled over by them anymore. They have really pushed my good nature, and my friend's too. Marjorie and Johnny say they are ready to help me defend my cousins. http://www.animallaw.info/
